Picasso’s Years of Wonders
The exhibition is Tate Modern’s first solo display of works from the late Spanish

during a particular period.
The walk-through exhibition starts from December 1931 with the Bust of a
Woman and Woman with Yellow Hair, depicting his long-time lover, Marie-Thérèse.
His mistress was the muse of “Vollard Suite”, a set of 100 etched illustrations
during the 30s.
There are five paintings of Marie-Thérèse in 1932 hung together for the first time
after their completion. The paintings, Nude Woman in a Red Armchair, Nude,
Green Leaves and Bus, and The Mirror come together for this exhibit which
unravels Picasso’s love for women.
During their affair, Picasso was living Russian Ballerina, Olga Khokhlova, whom
he has a son with. Three years later, Marie-Thérèse also became pregnant, and
she, too, would become jealous of Picasso’s next mistress, photographer Dora
Maar.
At last quarter of the year, depictions of an impending war led to darker themes
of his works.
